"Anglo-Indian" antique Raj desk from Western India, Rajasthan Region. This desk is hand-carved rosewood. The style is that of a Davenport desk. The desk was crafted in Bombay, India circa 1860 to 1870. Birds and snakes are finely carved in an all-over design. The desk has a pierced carved gallery over the hand-tooled leather topped writing surface and has four interior drawers. The body is raised on two front carved winged birds with snake columns, backed by carved case holding a secret pen drawer on side, which is activated by puling the interior bottom left drawer pull. The pen drawer pops out and hinges over a door holding four drawers, all-over ornately carved dog feet. Measures 52.75 inches to top of its back-splash, 24 inches deep, 24 inches wide and 33.5 inches to the middle of its writing surface. Excellent condition, original finish. |
